It's that time of year!

WOW...the holidays are near and you can tell around our classroom.  Thank you so much to all the families who joined us for our family feast.  We love being able to spend time with you.

Of course then we have our holiday party!  Yes we dress up in our pj's, wear our santa hats, drink hot cocoa, do crafts, and have our holiday book exchange.  So much fun!

One of the best parts of this day is our story time with Auntie Claus.  We get to sing songs and listen to a great story!  On the way out we even got a candy cane.  It was a great day!

Stop and Jot

What is stop and jot you might ask....well it is a strategy we have been learning in reading to help us with difficult text.  Today we read Snowflake Bentley (our December Book of the Month).  It is about a man who devoted his life to learning and photographing snowflakes.  Through the text, students are encourage to stop at different parts and think about reflections, questions, or difficult words they may have.  After we are done reading the text we discuss their jots and clarify misunderstandings.  We will be doing this many times throughout the year.  This is also an activity you can do at home with some sticky notes.  STOP and JOT your thoughts.

Fund Run Was a Fun Run

What a great kickoff to our school year.  Thank you for all your support through our FundRun this year.  Our class raised around $1500!  AWESOME!  We won two parties - a dance party and a water balloon fight.  Although the day was very hot, the kids did an amazing job running and sticking with it.  Here are some highlights.

Up Up and Away - well almost!

Welcome to the first day of school.  Today the kids got to see a real hot air balloon.  Although the plan was for it to take off with Mrs. Philliips inside - the wind was too rough.  It was exciting though just to see one up close and watch them inflate it.  Hope your child had a great first day.

The end is near!

Only a couple more weeks of school and your little ones will become first graders.  Can you believe the year is almost done?  This summer have your child keep a journal of their day- it's a great way to keep them writing and save good memories!

Time to Celebrate Eric Carle

What a fantastic unit we have had reading Eric Carle books.  The kids have loved reading the many, many books.  To end the unit all kindergarteners had a fun day doing activities related to Eric Carle.  We made shirts earlier in the week and they turned out so cute!

We had pancakes and a movie, made caterpillar necklaces, and then played Eric Carle bingo. During the afternoon we  made fireflies out if band-aids and click beetles.

Dental Health

February is Dental Health Month.  This year we were lucky to have a mom from the Mallard's class come to educate us.  She did an awesome job of showing us how to take care of our teeth daily and the right foods that help keep our teeth healthy.  She even brought us all a new toothbrush.

Fun times at JCA

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanks to Mrs. Toukatly for the yummy and creative treats today.  Hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Readers to Leaders

Each nine weeks students are celebrated for reaching their reading goal.  Today we celebrated with a guest turkey.  Mrs. Phillips dressed in her finest turkey outfit read and danced with our kids and reminded then how important it is to read each day.  Remember that our nightly book in a bag is what counts towards our  reading count.  We hope that everyone can participate for the second nine weeks!
