Pow Wow 2013!

What a great Pow Wow we had this year.  After learning about the Nez Perce over a couple weeks we ended it all with Family Night and our Pow Wow ceremony.  We loved that so many families were able to come and watch.  Here are a couple pictures to highlight the day.

Literary Parade

What a fabulous day we had on Friday.  The Literary Parade was a huge success and the kids looked amazing.  Love to see them dressed as some of their favorite characters.  Here is a video of the parade in case you missed it.  Our class is on about the 7 minute mark.

It was a Busy Week

This week we practiced our retelling in class each day.  The kids love when we get to use the big puppets!

In science we have been learning about tools that scientists use.  The kids loved using the balance to weigh and compare different classroom items.

If you didn't make it to Open House then find a few minutes this week to drop by and see our Standards Based Bulletin Board outside our classroom.  It will give you a glimpse into our busy skills block.

Star Books

Over the last couple weeks we have been reading our Star Books such as Caps for Sale and The 3 Billy Goats Goats.  Students  practice retelling the stories with partners, acting it out, pictures, and puppets.  These activities will help them with the pre-reading skills needed to become a good reader.

Sensory Safari

Sensory Safari on PhotoPeach

Welcome to Kindergarten

We would like to welcome all our families to our class.  We are excited to start our new adventure with your little one.  Over the next couple weeks we will be learning new rituals and routines for our classroom as well as completing some assessments which will help guide us with your child's education.  We would love to have parent volunteers this year so please make sure you go through parent orientation here at Chets Creek and complete your Duval County background check.

If at any time through the year you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.   We look forward to a WILD year!

Cici's Pizza

What a fun field trip we had at Cici's Pizza.  The kids loved getting to make a pizza with a friend and then eating it all up!  Yummy!  They leaned how to stretch the dough, add the sauce, sprinkle with cheese, and add on the pepperoni.  What a great trip to go with our theme.

It's Potato Picking Time

This week we dug up our potatoes.  The kids were so excited to find so many of them deep in the soil.   We can't wait to cook them this week!

Don't Waste Food

Yesterday two of our students were on WCCE- our school broadcast. The message was simple. Every day students throw food away at lunch and waste a lot! They wanted to get the message that too much food is wasted, some kids don't have food at home, and you're wasting your parents money. Instead of throwing it away, take it back home if you brought a lunch or if you buy lunch don't throw away what can be saved. They were familiar with that message because they see it happening in our class. If we have extra fruit then we take it to the class and anyone is welcome to take it home to have. We hope that by hearing the message, kids will make sure they take what they like to eat, eat what they can, and not just throw it away. So proud of our boys for the strong message they sent.

Experiment Day

Today our reward was Experiment Day. We had two really big fun experiments in science. The first one was on gravity. The kids loves learning that all matter will fall at the same rate. Then we made oobleck. Talk about a mess! But oh how fun. Kids were able to experience how a solid can go to a liquid and a liquid back to a solid. Here are a couple pics from the day.

It's the 100th Day!!

What an exciting day- the 100th day of school. This afternoon we did some fun activities centered around the number 100. Here are a couple of our 100 year old kids.

Reading under the Pavilion

This week we are cashing in on some of our rewards we earned from Boosterthon. This morning we had donuts and read at the pavilion. It was the quietest reading time we had all year!

Garden Time

Today we planted potato's in the garden. The children were surprises to learn that to grow a potato we had to plant part is a potato. Luckily we got out before it got too hot. The kids had a great time. We can't wait to watch them grow!
