January's Book of the Month

P is for Passport

If you would like to take a trip around the world, then you must read our January Book of the Month - P is for Passport. This is a great alphabet book that celebrates places around the world. Each letter is dedicated to different experiences you would have with traveling (for example: A is for animals, C is for currency, k is for knapsack).

The kids loved this book and thinking about all the fun places we could go. We watched a powerpoint that showed pictures of places discussed in the book such as Mt. Everest, Africa, the Sahara Desert, and the North Pole. Here are a couple samples of their poster and description of where they would like to visit after listening to this book. Ask your child where in the world he/she would like to travel to and why.

Extra Expedition 1/7

Needs or Wants...that is what we have beent talking about in Social Studies. The extra expedition today is for the kids to make two lists - one is a list of needs and one is a list of wants (pictures are encouraged as well). They are welcome to do this on the computer if they want to. They have until Friday to turn it in. :) Happy homeworking!

Chet goes with Mrs. Harbour to Tennessee

WOW...I just got back from a great trip to the Smokey Mountains. Last week I went with Mrs. H. and her family up to Gatlinburg. We had a great time. The first day we arrived after a 9 hour car ride. We were tired when we got to our cabin.

The next morning we got up and there was frost and ice everywhere. It was SO COLD. We even took pictures of the ice crystals on the car window.

That day we went to Pigeon Forge and in the National Park. I loved going down to the river and walking around.

By the end of the day we were cold and tired. The next morning they got up and went skiing at Ober Gatlinburg. They made me stay behind so I wouldn't get lost on the mountain. On Thursday we jumped in the car and got to go play putt putt golf in Pigeon Forge. That was a blast.
We spend the afternoon downtown Gatlinburg doing all the tourist stuff. The next day it was time to get in the car and come back home - 10 hours to get back. Here are some photos from the trip.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to school and a new year. We hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday break. We had an awesome day back to school and jumped right back into our schedules. Make sure you have noted the homework changes. We have discussed this in class. Over the next few weeks we will be completing our ELA diagnostics. We can't wait to see how much the kids have grown since the beginning of the year. We will be sending that information home as soon as we complete all testing. Don't forget that the nine-weeks ends next week. We will be counting our book totals next Monday. We look forward to 2009!
