Eric Carle

Last week we started our 6 week unit of study on one of my favorite authors - Eric Carle. For those of you who haven't read a lot of his books (and there are more than 60 of them out there) you need to open your mind to a whole new world of picture books. Eric Carle is able to write and illustrate his books with beauty that entices all young children. Each week we will discuss what books we have studied and show samples of student work. I hope you enjoy learning about Eric Carle as much as your children will!

This week we read "Do You Want to be my Friend?" and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". Ask your child about each of these books and how they practiced retelling the story of a caterpillar who just can't get enough to eat!

Dylan: This book is the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. My favorite part is when the caterpillar turned fat.









Julia: The book The Very Hungry Caterpillar is very great, I actually mean like excellent. You should read it. It's by Eric Carle. My favorite part was when he wrapped himself in a cocoon.

Peter: The book The Very Hungry Caterpillar is eating too much junk food by Eric Carle. My favorite part is when the caterpillar went out of the cocoon.

C is for Chets Creek

As we celebrated our 10th birthday in January, each class was able to participate in writing an alphabet book about Chets Creek. Classes were assigned letters, covers, dedication pages, etc. The book was assembled and put onto voice thread for everyone to share. We hope you enjoy the book as much as we did!

Our 100th Day Celebration

On Friday we celebrated our 100th day of school. Mrs. Harbour was so sad that she was unable to spend the day with the kids. Ms. Stresen - Reuter and Mrs. Cordoza said they had a great time and celebrated the number 100 all day long! Here are some pictures of their fun.

Our Wild Field Trip

Today we went to see The Jungle Book at the Jewish Alliance Center. The kids had so much fun and laughed through the whole show. Most of the kids loved when the characters ran through the audience chasing eachother. Check out some of our responses tomorrow on our blog.

Reader's all Around !

As we celebrate our 10th birthday this week we were honored to have a guest reader assigned to our class. Lucky for us, my own daughter Jessie was there, along with some of her friends, as alumni students. We were not only treated to one guest reader but 4 guest readers. The kids had a great time listening to others read! Here are some pictures from our day along with the book each person read. Ask your child which book was his/her favorite.

Happy Birthday Chets Creek

Last week we began talking about memorable birthdays in honor of our own Chets Creek's 10th birthday coming up. To coincide with our narrative writing, students wrote about their favorite birthday or birthday party he/she went to. Visit our own students' voicethreads and hear their stories. You will be amazed!
