Sleepover Has Begun!
Yes - it is that time in first grade for Sleepover. One iur favorite things is the at home project. This year we tried to include our theme of The Wizard of Oz by having the kids create a stuffed animal or pillow with that theme. Kids could make lions and tigers and bears - OH MY! Here is a look at our creations.

Movie Day
Even though it was a small group today we had a great time seeing Paddington. Thanks to Chase, Sophia, and Jackson for their donations to Promise To Kate Foundation in December. It was a lot of fun.

Of course then we have our holiday party! Yes we dress up in our pj's, wear our santa hats, drink hot cocoa, do crafts, and have our holiday book exchange. So much fun!

One of the best parts of this day is our story time with Auntie Claus. We get to sing songs and listen to a great story! On the way out we even got a candy cane. It was a great day!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS...SEE YOU NEXT YEAR

Stop and Jot
What is stop and jot you might ask....well it is a strategy we have been learning in reading to help us with difficult text. Today we read Snowflake Bentley (our December Book of the Month). It is about a man who devoted his life to learning and photographing snowflakes. Through the text, students are encourage to stop at different parts and think about reflections, questions, or difficult words they may have. After we are done reading the text we discuss their jots and clarify misunderstandings. We will be doing this many times throughout the year. This is also an activity you can do at home with some sticky notes. STOP and JOT your thoughts.
